EV Charging Station FAQ

Sustainability matters. When you make the decision to buy an all-electric MINI Cooper, you are choosing to protect our planet by reducing your carbon emissions and fossil fuel consumption. The first step when preparing to make the switch is understanding how electric vehicle charging stations work.  At Orlando MINI, we are available to answer any questions you may have - don't hesitate to reach out!

How does the Charging Station Work?

Just like a smartphone, when the battery of any MINI Cooper EV is running low, it needs to be connected to a power source to recharge. There are three options when plugging in your car, depending on your weekly routine and access to EV charging stations.

Charging at Home - Level 1

The most basic way to charge your all-electric MINI Cooper is with the included AC portable charging cord that conveniently works with your regular 140-volt household outlets. While the easiest to use, Level 1 power is also the slowest way to charge the car, with less than 2KW, or 2%, per hour.

Charging at Home or in Public - Level 2

A much more efficient way to recharge your MINI Cooper is with a Level 2 charging station, which uses a 240-volt outlet to deliver a faster charge of up to 7.4KW, or 20%, per hour. You may elect to have a Level 2 charging station installed in your home to ensure you have a convenient, fast way to keep your car battery full.

You can also find Level 2 charging stations in your neighborhood, and public places across the country.

DC Fast Charging on the Go

If you plan to take your electric MINI Cooper on a road trip, you can find DC Fast Charging (Level 3) stations that are capable of delivering up to 50KW, or up to 80%, in just 36 minutes. While DC charging is not recommended for everyday use to keep the battery in peak performance, it is a convenient way to stick to your schedule when traveling on the open road.
